1) What is the function of an elevator?
- To move people up and down to different levels of a building
2) How do people select a floor?
- Choosing the floor they want to go by pressing the button
3) What else do people do when they are in an elevator?
- Greet/Talk to one another to the people they know or are familiar with
- They look at their reflection in the mirror
- Talk/sms through their mobile
4) What is the difference in their behaviour when it is a lift that goes up 6 storeys and a lift that goes up 25 storeys?
- People become impatient
- Start to look at the level display every now and then
- They sigh if the lift stops at many levels before their floor
- Daydream
5) How are the floors displayed to those in the elevator?
- Buttons of the floor are orderly displayed in an ascending way
- At the top of the elevator, the floors that the elevator stops or passes are displayed
6) Any other things you notice during your observation?
- A domestic helper looks into her plastic carrier, probably to see if she had bought the required items
- Man adjusts his pants and looks at his reflection
- People thank one another when they help press the button for others
- Using their mobile phones
Design an elevator for a building with 1000 floors
- User selects the floor by keying in the floor number
- Have at 4 sections for users to select floor
- The floors are displayed on a screen

- Elevator travels faster then usual
- A screen to have videos for users to view
- Mirror and transparent glass for users to view the scenery outside and to look at themselves through the mirror
